PRESS RELEASE
Artistic
Director
Theatre West is proud
to announce that Stina Seeger-Gibson has been selected by their Board of
Directors as the new Artistic Director.
Stina was warmly welcomed to the theater thirteen years ago by Jack Coyne
her mentor and the theatre’s first Artistic Director. She credits Jack with
sharing the spirit of Theatre West with the community. Stina has directed
and appeared in many of the productions as well as doing set design,
costuming, and many of the business functions such as planning and
coordinating the bi-annual galas held on New Year’s Eve and at the opening
of the summer production.
Stina attended the prestigious Stephens College in Columbia , Missouri
majoring in theater arts. She then attended San Jose State University in
California . After college Stina was involved in theater in the San
Francisco Bay area. She student taught, worked with a Shakespeare company
and with “The Opry House”. She ran “Big Lil’s Cabaret”, a
vaudeville/melodrama theater where she was known as “Steamin’ Stina”.
Costuming, set design, acting, directing and promotion of the productions
were all part of her responsibilities.
Stina plans to spend many more years at Theatre West doing what she loves
best. Her vision for the theatre is of a functional new building which will
include educational, costuming and set building labs as well as meeting and
rehearsal space, kitchen and office areas. Stina says: “Even if you don’t
want to be on stage, there’s a place for everyone at Theatre West. We even
offer scholarships to high school students who ‘play’ with us”. Fund raising
for the new theatre facility will be gearing up in 2008. Applying for grants
and requesting contributions from the community will both play heavily in
this effort.
